So cute, for now

Opie the baby opossum (click to enlarge)I was doing some late spring-cleaning with files, and projects, on my computer this week. While sorting through my photography I found this gem.

Almost a year ago, they decided to rebuild the fence and clean out the wild brush growing in the back area of the building I work at. In the process, the crew discovered a small family of opossums that made themselves a home back there. Not sure exactly what happened when they were found. I’m assuming they all went running every which way and this little guy (or girl) went climbing for dear life onto the fence.

I guess it’s hard to play “possum” when you’re hanging on a fence. Maybe it’s still in training and just learned the “okay, now don’t move for as long as they’re around” part but forgot the “remember… keep your eyes closed, you’re supposed to play dead” part. It was probably in that position for about an hour. Plenty of time for us all to gather, waste time and talk about it. We even named him Opie. I had plenty of time to get my camera and take quite a few shots at different angles. Every once in a while I looked out the window from my desk and there it was, still posing for me. After some time the novelty of it wore off and we left it alone to find its way. We’ll always have this to remember him by.
