Last week was Employee Appreciation Week for us at Jack in the Box corporate. One of the fun activities was getting together a team of four to create a chalk drawing incorporating Jack with San Diego. Here’s what our team came up with, I used an Antonio Gates image as a reference, it wasn’t hard to find one of him getting into the end zone.

Special thanks to Natalie, Eva and (pregnant) Marie for braving the San Diego “heat wave” together for this project.

The Mikey Show put on a show for 28 straight hours, with no commercials. All in the name of raising money, and awareness, for Rady Children’s Hospital’s Autism Discovery Institute (donations are still being accepted here). Of those 28 hours, I got to be there for about 20.

They opened up the top floor of their parking garage for all the M1s to enjoy the show together and even came out to perform some hilariously unforgettable bits. Later that night they had listeners sync up with them as they watched Dirty Dancing and Waterworld, I was fortunate enough to call in and get a spot in-studio with the cast as they commented. I was too busy enjoying the five hours of laughter I forgot to take some shots.

It was all good times for a great cause. Looking forward to 2011 when they get back from a well deserved time off.

My first half marathon was rough but I had all the support a person can get. My co-worker Helen was there to cheer me on early in the course with her dog Monty. The Friday before I purposely didn’t listen to The Mikey Show to save the full podcast for my run. I e-mailed them the week before to share my plans, in the middle of the podcast they gave me a shout out and some cheers to keep me motivated. Right before the finish line my wife, son and closest friends were there with a silly sign to make me laugh.

Everyone and all these things kept my little legs going, not until I crossed the finish line and started walking did I realize how much my left knee hurt. It’s wrapped now, alternating between heat and ice. Now it’s time for recovery and prep for the next half in November, then my first full marathon in June 2011. Until I’m healed, I’m not going to feel guilty for taking down some fried chicken for dinner.

Official time: 02:03:49 (My goal was two hours or below, I’ll get it next time)
Pace: 9:27/mile

The 48 Hour Film Project is film as sport. On a Friday night we were given a line of dialogue, a prop and a character that must appear in our film. Each team picked a genre out of a hat and had until 7:30pm the following Sunday to write, shoot, edit and score a film between 4-7 minutes long.

Line: “I’m trying my best”
Prop: Chair
Character: Dr. Richard (or Rita) Hernandez
Genre: Comedy

I couldn’t have been with a better group of friends to make this film. It was our first time as a group working together and making a film. We wrote it as a team with no egos to get in the way of revisions or suggestions. Everyone trusted each other to do their jobs, we worked hard to get it done and laughed almost every second of the way. Team RoundAbound is a sherpa. By the way, this is a RoundAbound and this is a sherpa.
